Industry Leading Foundation Flood Vent System Donated To Church Destructed By Hurricane Katrina

SMART VENT Donates 12 Flood Vents To Dularge House of Praise in Theriot, LA; Bringing Church In Compliance With
Local Floodplain Ordinances

Smart Vent Products, Inc. recently donated their award-winning, flood damage mitigation product, SMART VENT® to the Dularge House of Praise, located in Theriot, LA. Improving in flood management and control, SMART VENT® combines innovative design and human ingenuity to bring new solutions to potential foundation damage in areas affected by floods.

When beginning their church expansion in late 2004, Pastor Anthony Pierre of Dularge House of Praise had only his church members and their personal funds to help finance the project. Due to limited funds, work had not begun until early 2005, only to be halted that summer due to destruction by Hurricane Katrina. In 2011, local shop owner Craig Fuson decided to become a part of the restoration team and lent his time and finances to the church. Gerald Clifton, a volunteer from Tennessee, contacted Smart Vent and inquired about a possible donation of the vents. Committed to community outreach and the flood protection instilled in their product, Smart Vent gladly donated twelve vents to the church to meet the flood-opening requirement of the building code.

“We cannot express how much we appreciate what Smart Vent has done for the Dularge House of Praise,” said Craig Fuson. “This project has been quite an undertaking and without partners like Smart Vent, it may not have been possible. Smart Vent played an absolutely crucial role in bringing the church in compliance with local floodplain ordinances.”

Dularge - Smart Vents

Certified by the International Code Council Evaluation Service (ICC-ES)  and accepted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), each standard vent model is certified for 200 square feet of flood coverage. SMART VENT provides a line of engineered openings that utilizes the best flood venting practices to out perform a traditional air vent. Controlled by patented dual floats, SMART VENT automatically opens when flood water levels rise without electricity and without human intervention. Temperature controlled louvers control the airflow in and out of a crawlspace on all dual function models.

“One of the nicest things about working for Smart Vent is that they have a genuine desire to help people. This is certainly not the first time that Smart Vent has stepped up and made donations to worthy causes, nor will it be the last,” states Brian Daschbach, Louisiana Technical Sales Representative of Smart Vent Products, Inc. “I take comfort in knowing that I work with a great group of people that care about community needs and are willing to make an impact. Smart Vent really does care about sound, floodplain construction practices, and their actions back this up.”

SMART VENT has won a number of awards for its innovative solution, has been praised by building professionals across the country, and is committed to providing the best protection for foundations when disaster strikes. Made of durable 316 stainless steel, SMART VENT meets or exceeds all rust and corrosion requirements. Unlike other flood venting options, they are also aesthetically pleasing and blend into any exterior with a variety of colors and custom options.
